After decades of repression under the Chinese rule of their country, the peaceful Tibetan people's frustrations have burst onto the streets in protests and riots claiming for their right in self-rule and cultural freedom. With the spotlight of the upcoming Olympic Games now on China, Tibetans are crying out to the world for change.

The Chinese government has said that the protesters who have not yet surrendered "will be punished." Its leaders and the Chinese people are right now considering a crucial choice between escalating brutality or the dialogue with their Tibetan brothers. A choice that will determine both the future of Tibet and the future of China.

The Tibetan Nobel peace prize winner and spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, has called for restraint and dialogue: he needs the world's people to support him and his people.

For this reason, we urge you to sign this petition to support the Tibetan People.

أيها الأصدقاء الأعزاء،

بعد عقود طويلة من القمع في ظلِّ الحكم الصيني لبلاده، هو ذا شعب التيبت المسالم ينتفض في الشوارع متظاهرًا، مطالبًا بحقِّه في الحكم الذاتي وفي الحرية الثقافية. إن شعب التيبت، مستفيدًا من أضواء الألعاب الأولمپية القادمة المسلَّطة اليوم على الصين، يستصرخ العالم مطالبًا بحقِّه في التغيير.

لقد صرحت الحكومة الصينية بأن المحتجين الذين لم يستسلموا بعد "سوف يعاقَبون". إن القادة الصينيين والشعب الصيني يواجهون الآن خيارًا مصيريًّا بين تصعيد الهمجية وبين الحوار مع إخوانهم التيبتيين، خيارًا سوف يحدد مستقبل التيبت ومستقبل الصين جميعًا.

لذا فإن الدالاي لاما، الزعيم الروحي للتيبت والحائز على جائزة نوبل للسلام، يدعو إلى ضبط النفس وإلى الحوار: إنه في حاجة إلى شعوب العالم لمساندته ومساندة شعبه.
